PEER SUPPORT PROJECT

 The Peer Support Project:

  • Recognises the hard work and commitment of experienced volunteers.

  • Provides additional support for new volunteers throughout their training.

  • Contributes to the organisation’s succession planning for ensuring a pool of talented volunteers being available for the future.

  • Links  new volunteers with experienced volunteers for the transfer of knowledge and skills in a supported and structured environment.

  • Offers an opportunity for volunteers nearing retirement to still be involved.

Participation in a variety of training programs prepare  experienced volunteers to become ‘Peer Support Leaders'. For example: Role Modelling, Group Work, Team Leading, Accidental Counsellor, Mentoring and Public Speaking.  This helps them develop the skills for their new leadership role.

The Peer Support Leaders are involved in presenting segments in the New Volunteers'  Training Sessions and supporting new volunteers on their ‘Observation Trips’, to become more confident with implementing the policies and procedures.
